Concerns:
Marley Creek has been closed to swimming since March 25, 1979, because of high levels of fecal coliform bacteria.
County and state officials have argued over whether animal or human waste was behind 30 years of bacterial pollution in Marley and Furnace Creeks.
In Marley Creek, dogs were the leading bacterial source at 35 percent, followed by humans at 34 percent and wildlife at 31 percent.

Performed and Planned Actions:
In February Marley Middle School students propagated 800 plants to use in a Marley Creek restoration project involving a living wall.
The living wall will be planted by these students and other volunteers on May 6th. Other projects on May 6th include:
- Storm Drains are planned for Stenciling
- Fifteen Atlantic White cedars will be planted at a storm drain outfall to sequester nutrients and preventing them from entering the water
- A native pollinator garden will be planted to provide habitat for native animals living in the area, as well as other species that may have been displaced
